New to Acupuncture?

1. Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people are pleasantly surprised by how gentle acupuncture is! The single-use needles are extremely thin—about the size of a cat whisker.
Experiences vary, but most patients feel one of three things:
-
nothing at all
-
a light touch sensation or warmth
-
occasionally a brief, tiny pinch as a needle is initially inserted
Acupuncture should never feel overwhelming or painful, and treatments are always adjusted based on your comfort and feedback.

2. Does acupuncture really work?
Acupuncture has been used safely for thousands of years, and modern research continues to support its benefits for a wide range of conditions.
Today, acupuncture is widely used in hospitals, pain clinics, fertility centers, and integrative medical practices. I regularly receive referrals from orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, fertility specialists, and mental health providers.
I work closely with people who are already receiving conventional medical care and want additional support for pain, stress, fertility, hormonal balance, and chronic conditions.
Acupuncture works by supporting circulation, calming the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and helping the body regulate itself more effectively.
It’s not magic—but it’s a powerful, natural way to support healing and whole-body balance.

3. Is acupuncture safe?
Yes—when performed by a licensed practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe.
I use sterile, single-use needles and follow strict clean needle protocols. Side effects are minimal and can occasionally include mild soreness, slight bruising, or temporary fatigue after treatment.
Acupuncture is extremely low-risk and drug-free. It’s appropriate for children, seniors, pregnant patients (with proper technique), and people managing complex medical conditions.

4. What should I expect at my first visit?
Your first visit includes:
-
a thorough health history
-
time to share your main concerns and goals
-
your first acupuncture treatment.
You will have the option of undressing to your comfort level, and we will use sheets for draping (similar to a massage) so that only areas being treated are uncovered. Treatments typically last about 60–75 minutes.
Most people leave feeling relaxed, grounded, and clearer about what’s going on in their body and what the next steps are to feeling better.

What Can Acupuncture Help With?
5. What conditions does acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture supports the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal. People come for:
-
pain and injury recovery
-
headaches, TMJ, and musculoskeletal tension
-
stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm
-
fertility, menstrual concerns, and menopause
-
digestive issues and chronic conditions
6. Can acupuncture help with stress and anxiety?
Yes. Acupuncture is especially effective at calming the nervous system and helping the body shift out of chronic fight-or-flight mode.
I have years of experience working with patients experiencing high stress, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms, including Veterans with PTSD. Many people notice improvements not only in mood, but also in sleep, focus, and overall emotional balance over time.

7. Can acupuncture support fertility and hormonal balance?
Acupuncture is commonly used to support fertility, menstrual health, and the sometimes challenging transition into menopause.
Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or with IVF/IUI, or are navigating menopause naturally or with hormone replacement, treatments are always individualized and may be used safely alongside conventional medical treatment.

8. Can acupuncture help chronic conditions?
Many people seek acupuncture for ongoing or complex health concerns, including autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, digestive disorders, and other long-standing illnesses. While acupuncture is not a cure for most chronic conditions, it can be a valuable part of a long-term management plan to reduce symptom intensity, improve day-to-day functioning, and enhance quality of life. Many people find symptoms to become more manageable and flareups are less frequent or less severe over time.
9. What if I’m not sure acupuncture can help me?
It’s very common to feel unsure, especially if you’ve tried other treatments without the results you hoped for.If you have questions, I’m always happy to talk through your concerns and help you decide whether acupuncture is a good fit.
Your First Visit

10. What should I expect at my first visit?
At your first visit we will take time to discuss your health history, talk about your main concerns and goals, and you will receive your first acupuncture treatment.
Appointments typically last about 60–75 minutes, which allows us plenty of time without feeling rushed.

11. Will I need to undress?
You will have the option of undressing to your comfort level, and we will use sheets for draping (similar to a massage) so that only the areas being treated are uncovered.
We’ll always talk through options beforehand so you feel comfortable and informed.
12. What does acupuncture feel like?
People’s experiences vary. Some feel very little sensation, while others notice mild pressure, warmth, or tingling in certain areas. Overall, most people find it a very calming and relaxing experience.
13. Will I feel any different after treatment?
Patients describe feeling relaxed, grounded, and particularly clear-headed afterward. Some notice changes immediately, while others experience gradual shifts over the next day or two.
We’ll talk about what’s typical for your situation and what to watch for.

Scheduling, Payment & Insurance
14. How often should I come in?
Many people begin with weekly sessions for a short period to build momentum and allow the body to respond consistently. As symptoms improve, visits are often spaced out—such as every other week, monthly, or seasonally for maintenance.
After your first visit, we’ll talk together about a schedule that feels supportive, realistic, and aligned with your goals.

15. How many treatments will I need?
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. Some people notice changes within just a few visits, while others benefit from a longer course of care, especially for chronic or complex concerns.
Treatment plans are always individualized and revisited along the way, based on how your body responds and what you’re hoping to achieve. My goal is to be transparent and collaborative, so you have a clear sense of direction without pressure.

16. Do you take insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly. This allows me to focus on individualized care and offer clear, straightforward pricing without insurance-related restrictions. My priority is helping you feel better and helping you make informed decisions about your care.
If your coverage includes acupuncture benefits, I’m happy to provide a receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you’re unsure about your coverage, I recommend checking directly with your insurer.

17. What are payment options?
Payment is due at the time of service in the form of cash, check, or card. Current rates are listed clearly on the scheduling site, and gift certificates are available for immediate online purchase with email delivery. I’m happy to answer questions ahead of time if you’d like clarity before your visit.
My intention is for payment policies to be straightforward and predictable, so you can focus on your care rather than logistics.

18. What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance without charge.
Each appointment time is reserved specifically for you. Cancellations or rescheduling requests made within 24 hours of your appointment time will be charged the full session fee, as that time is difficult to refill on short notice.
Missed appointments (no-shows) are also charged the full session fee.
I ask that patients be mindful when reserving time on my schedule, as mutual respect and consideration allow me to provide focused, unhurried care to everyone.
If a true emergency arises, please reach out as soon as possible so we can handle the situation thoughtfully.

19. Still have questions?
You’re always welcome to reach out or bring your questions to your first visit. I am committed to continual improvement and better understanding of how to support each patient's needs.
